The Common Tiger Butterfly

The Common Tiger Butterfly

(Danaus genutia)

Danaus genutia, the common tiger, one of the common Butterflies of India. It belongs to the “crows and tigers”.

The butterfly is also called striped tiger in INDIA to differentiate it from the equally common plain tiger and the species was first described by Piter Cramer in 1779.

The male common tiger has a prominent black-and-white spot on the underside of the hindwing.

In drier regions the tawny part of the hindwing pales and approaches white in colour making it very similar to the White Tiger.

Just a little curiosity on the shot I took in my neighbourhood of this beautiful Butterfly led me compile this little information and I am hopeful most of us were unaware of it.

Let’s save our ENVIRONMENT to protect these winged worms to thrive.
