What do you think?

Welcome to Tawang, the capital of Arunachal Pradesh. Here it is as if the Earth meets the Sky. It is in all ways, truly a heaven on Earth.

I have been wanting to visit Arunachal and have been planning for a long time to see this spectacularly unique location but for some reason the trip had alluded me.

Until finally, during 2016 everything fell into place and in October, I had the opportunity to experience this breathtaking environment and the 300km journey from Bhalukpong to Tawang is no exception.

The drive was incredibly scenic. We travelled via Bomdila, a small town in the hills where we spent the night before moving on to Tawang. Although I didn’t manage to find the peaks of Shela or Bumla pass on the Chinese border to be capped in snow as I had hoped, I could not have been disappointed by the mountainous views and fauna that are especially unique to that area.

From Tawang I decided some local sight seeing was in order. I was sure the famous Tawang monestery and other historical monuments would accommodate my needs perfectly, which they did and also made sure to pay a visit to the beautiful Madhuri Lake.

I’m a huge fan and frequent visitor of hill stations and landscapes that offer rolling green, frostbitten backcountry but never before had I seen such scenic beauty in all my life… It was just awesome witness the flora that lined the trip from Tawang to Madhuri lake. At that time of year the leaves were turning red and yellow with the coming of winter and for about 40 to 50km it was as if we had driven into a fairytale. A genuinely magic experience…

I’ve included some of the #best shots here which I’m sure you will enjoy thoroughly.

If you are planning to visit Tawang yourself please feel free to contact me for any assistance. I suggest that you allow at least 6 nights and 7 days from Gawuhati to Tawang and back.
